Joy Burch has announced grants to help childcare providers meet the new standards coming into effect next year.

Sharing the $233,500 are:

    — Communities @ work- Narrabundah Early Childhood School
    — Communities @ work- Greenway Childcare Centre
    — Communities @ work- Ngunnawal Childcare and Education Centre
    — Communities @ work-Tuggeranong Childcare and Education Centre
    — Heritage Early Childhood Centre Inc
    — KU Black Mountain Children’s Centre
    — North Belconnen Community Association – Alkira Community Childcare and Preschool
    — Southside Community Services – Binara Early Childhood Centre –
    — Southside Community Services – Currawong
    — Southside Community Services – Forrest Early Childhood Centre
    — Southside Community Services – Fyshwick Early Childhood Centre
    — Southside Community Services -Narrabundah Children’s Cottage

Interesting that only 25 centres have been given a grant – I know of at least one not-for-profit centre that was substantially upgraded last year in anticipation of the new standards, but I don’t see it on this list. I guess they should have hung on and waited for the government to come and bail them out.
