Christmas

Camels are Australia’s greatest natural resource.

That was a silly sentence, but Camel rides are a blast, and the city is going to be full of them this Thursday.

The carnival is back with twice as many camels

The much anticipated Christmas Carnival in the City will officially open tomorrow (Thursday 12th) at 12pm.

Free activities, live performances and music will be scattered throughout the City centre in the lead up to Christmas.

By popular demand the amount of camels at the carnival has doubled from last year to ensure that rides are available from 12pm – 8pm daily and that the camels can all have sufficient breaks.

The team from “You Are Here” will be conducting Christmas themed performances and a musical offering will be held daily at the Canberra Times Fountain.

Christmas Carnival in the City will run for 12 days from Thursday 12 December – Monday 23 December 2013. Entertainment will begin from 12pm daily, concluding at 8pm each evening.

WHAT: Christmas Carnival in the City opening
WHEN: 12pm, Thursday 12 December 2013
WHERE: The camel station, Canberra Times Fountain, City Walk
WHO: Jane Easthope – CEO Canberra CBD Ltd
The team from “You Are Here” and musical offerings
Volunteers ACT

Please note: All attendees will be encouraged to take part in the carnival by joining in on the rides (particularly the camel rides!)

I may be grinchy here, but I hate the camel rides…the camels look so thin, dirty and unhappy…plus they haul them around for hours with screaming kids on their backs (with an endless line awaiting)…looks awful. Plus the whole area smells. I know they’re designed for desert life but it also seems sweltering in that concrete area…

I don’t remember it being so smelly or the camels looking quite so scruffy last year, or do I just not remember right? One is muzzled too, whats that about?

Has anyone else gone to the Christmas in the City site and gotten hookup dot com? I wanted to check what entertainment is on. And where, last years stage has a jumping castle type thing on it. I looked out the window while waiting for the page to load and when I looked back . . eew.

You have your santa-goggles on 😛 They were just as scruffy last year sadly…

Maybe not too silly a sentence Barcham…I have heard our camels are prized around the world due to their pure genetic lines…
