Was at Woden Plaza yesterday, (Monday) and was approached by a young lady near the fruit n vegie shop on the corner collecting for some Charity.

After engaging me in small talk “like gee its cold in Canberra, I’m from Sydney” I replied “Your just after my credit card details arent you” at which point she lost all interest!

Ugh, these guys have no limits.

Me: Sorry, I’m in a hurry to get to class.
Greenpeace chugger: *seductive purr* Don’t worry, I’ll teach you all you need to know.

Didn’t fall for it of course, but they need to stop being so manipulative!

Oh, the Greenpeace ones are hideous. A couple of them were kicking back one afternoon and had black souls of their feet. Seriously you can be a greenie AND observe good personal hygiene, or at least buy some hemp sandals.

And they had dirty feet as well…

Ugh chuggers always heavy with the compliments like I’ve never heard one before! Yes I am beautiful. Yes these are magnificent socks. Yes I also only give directly to charity and generally in a lump sum when I can afford it rather than by subscription.

Personally, I prefer to pay tax.

I wonder how many oldies get conned by this lot

I just ignore them, because they’re not people.

I need to be more assertive. I got pulled over in Woden by young guys collecting for a charity and gave me all the lines and even high fived me when I told him my age. Cringe.

I just say “not interested thanks” and keep walking. No need to make up BS excuses (I’m sure they’ve heard them all) just be firm but polite.

Chugging will only stop when it no longer delivers income to the charity. If you want chuggers to disappear, you not only need to say no to them, but you also need to stop donating to their charity in any form. A quick email to them explaining why you’re putting your charity $ elsewhere will help make the point.

There are ones that are nice and I’ll just say ‘I’m busy’ or something lame like that and then there are the ones that stop right in front of my when I am my skateboard almost casing me to crash either into them or stack myself, which is greeted with a less then lame response.

I have a rule when dealing with these folks, if they’re polite and respectful then I will be to. If they say a quick hi and accept it when I say no thanks, there’s no issue. (Sorry, it can’t be easy standing outside for 8hrs a day but I only give direct to charities).

But a lot of them, certainly the ones in Garema Place must be falling short on their KPIs because they’re being more obnoxious than ever. They’ve taken to walking up and standing in front of people to stop them walking. Saw one business man barge one the other day when the chugger tried that tactic. They’ve taken to using hideous pick up lines, one guy with dreadlocks walked over to a woman walking through Garema Place and yelled to her “Hey pretty lady, want to chat?” She looked so creeped out and told him to f-off. Don’t think she even realised it was a charity collector, just some random creep.

Cool story Bro.
