The Canberra Comedy Festival is letting us know how their first year went!

The inaugural Canberra Comedy Festival, which ran from March 19th March 23rd, showed that Canberrans have an appetite for Comedy – posting whopping audience numbers in its first year.

The festival hosted a range of local, interstate, and international comedians performing over 28 shows, selling a massive 90% capacity for a total box office of almost 4,000 tickets.

Sold Out shows were the norm, with highlights including the Opening Night Gala hosted by the Stevenson Experience with special guest Akmal, Stephen K Amos had to add an extra show to cope with demand, and Tripod saw a live marriage proposal mid-show on the closing night of the festival. Local favourites The Stevenson Experience, Irresponsible, Dan Connell, as well as Celia Pacquola and Luke Heggie all played to packed houses.

The festival team is already busy planning for next year’s festival. “With such a huge response to this year’s Comedy Festival, we’re definitely going to do it again,” Says Festival Director Tim Duck, “Lock it in your diaries, March 2014. It’s going to be bigger and better. Next year’s line-up will blow your mind.”
