The Herald Sun has the pleasing news that Canberra’s baseball team the Cavalry are the national champs!

MICHAEL Wells blasted the deciding run out of the ballpark to earn the Canberra Cavalry the title of Australian Baseball League champions on Saturday night.

Canberra beat Perth Heat 7-6 in game two to ensure the Claxton Shield will reside in the ACT for the first time in the national title’s 78-year history.

The top-seeded Cavalry swept the two-time reigning champion 2-0, having won the opening game of the final series 6-4.

Canberra first baseman Aaron Sloan was named MVP of the series, hitting .625 and scoring three runs on the weekend.

Well done to all involved!

Well done to the Cavalry. I really should have made more effort to try and get to either of the games, although the bleachers looked to be pretty full anyway.

Also… Can you stop the cavalry?.

I think you missed an opportunity to headline this Canberra wins the highest-profile clean national league.

This country, you gotta get the money first.
Then when you get the money, then you get the power.
Then when you get the power, then you get the drugs.

Good job by the Cavalry though, both games were great.

I think you missed an opportunity to headline this Canberra wins the highest-profile clean national league.
