Connecting to TransACT ain't that simple

As a bit of a tech-head I often get asked whatI think of all the latest gadgets and gizmos. Truth be told, I’m always behind the times.
I don’t have an iPod (or any mp3 player for that matter)
My PC is benchmarked against what was mediocre 5 years ago
I have never played Counter Strike (no…not even the first one)
My TV has always been free viewing…..until recently.
Examining my internet and telephone bills me an the missus decided that TransACT was the way to go. An installation date would be set and everything would be right to go, or so I was told. You see, there seems to be a little problem with the telegraph poles in that TransACT employees need permission to climb up them…or rather, the poles need to have passed inspection. Fair enough. You would think though that they would check this out before coming to install the service but aparantly that is to simple a concept.

“Sorry, I can’t complete the installation becasue I can’t rest my ladder against the pole”.
……wtf?
“The pole hasn’t been inspected since 1993 so I can’t climb up it”
…..again….wtf?…they nearly burnt down in 2003, oyu didn’t think to check them after that?

So here we are getting the most out of our current internet plan before it cuts out. Then we are in the information-darkness of the internet free until ActewAGL works out if the pole is ok to climb or if it to be marked as condemmed (I kid you not). Meanwhile we have a set top box connected to nowhere and 50Mbit of entertainment goodness dangling not 10 metres from my back door.

Sigh…..

So far things are still running. Hoping for some contact from actewagl/transact tomorow but I doubt the ADSL will still be running (I think it’s only running now becasue it’s a weekend and no-one at dodo has done the billing run yet.

Ther is always the FAT pipe at work (no bloody good at dialup speeds though 🙁 )

You can come welch on my connection if you want. We can play Microsoft Hearts! It’s game that run over THE LAN! Isn’t that just the freakiest concept you ever heard?
