Katy Gallagher is throwing herself on a grenade and kicking off consultation for the location of new mental health facilities.

Everyone wants more mental health facilities. Almost no-one wants them in the neighbourhood.

Of particular interest will be this one:

    The ACT Government had identified three potential sites to locate the secure mental health facility, including:

    — Gungahlin Block 440;
    — Gungahlin Block 775 (adjacent to Bimberi); and
    — Symonston Section 49 Block 11 (former Quamby site)

They’re still looking for potential homes for the adolescent and young adult unit.

Apparently there will be more info on the health website soon.

The former Quamby site makes more sense due to its proximity to TCH.

Former Quamby site hey? Guess they’ve been reading the Riot, pretty sure that was one of the main suggestions raised on here when the Government realised they couldn’t build at TCH.

I’ll definately be involved in this consultation.

440 is the quarry site to the immediate west of Wells Station Track near Bimberi. 775 is the land all around Bimberi to the east of the track.

The consultants will attend the Gungahlin Community Council meeting next Wednesday 10th, Palmerston Community Centre, from 7.30pm.

We’ve already corresponded with the Minister on the issue, with no great concern, but thoughts that families of patients may have concerns about being branded by colocation with “a jail”.
