Andrew Barr has announced the appointment of a new Under Treasuer:

Mr David Nicol has been appointed as the new Under Treasurer in the Chief Minister and Treasury Directorate.

After an extensive executive search exercise and subsequent recruitment process, Mr David Nicol is the successful applicant for the position of Under Treasurer in the Chief Minister and Treasury Directorate.

Mr Nicol, who is an economist by training, has extensive experience in designing and managing budget and financial policy frameworks. He has spent the last four years playing a key role in coordinating the Commonwealth Government’s budget processes in his capacity as Manager of the Budget Policy and Coordination Division in the Department of Finance and Deregulation.

Mr Nicol has also managed the Commonwealth Government’s strategic review program and has significant experience in the design and delivery of major policy initiatives in areas including social welfare and income support, government service delivery, industry, labour market and education policy. His extensive career includes working as the policy officer for the HIH Royal Commission in 2003, as a member of the secretariat to the National Commission of Audit in 1996 and as a budget officer in a state government.

I thank Mr Dan Stewart for acting in the position of Under Treasurer during the past five months since the changes to the ACT Public Service administrative arrangements in November last year, in which the Chief Minister and Cabinet and Treasury Directorates were combined into a single directorate.

Mr Nicol takes up his post in early April.

So I guess if the bloke looking after the towns water supply is paid 855K a year, the Under Treasurer would have to be on at least , well i dunno , what say a mill ? , or even more perhaps.

Only if we set up the Treasury Directorate as a state-owned corporation.

A very important job in our Town Council.
