DEFEND THE RIGHT TO SEEK ASYLUM! NO TO GILLARD’S ‘PACIFIC SOLUTION’!

The Refugee Action Committee has called a demonstration in support of refugees and against the Pacific Solution for Saturday 25 August at 12.30pm in Garema Place in Canberra.

Amanda Zivcic, a spokesperson for the group, urged Canberrans to attend the protest and express their outrage with the bipartisan but inhumane policies which attack and demonise refugees.

‘Asylum seekers have committed no crime and deserve our protection, not being locked up for years in what are effectively offshore prisons,’ Ms Zivcic said.

‘We need to send a message to this Government and to future governments that we reject this scandalous and essentially racist treatment of refugees,” Ms Zivcic added.

‘That is why we have called this demonstration on Saturday at lunchtime in Garema Place to show the Government and the Opposition we are opposed to their rotten Pacific Solution,’ said Peter Jones, another spokesperson for the Committee.
