Desperation tactic? "Victim Katie" claims harrassment

ABC radio news this morning broadcast an interview with Katie Gallagher where she – interestingly – reported Liberal “harrassment” to the police but on the basis that “nothing was to be done” (create smoke without having to evidence fire). Her account painted a picture of a group of Liberal men “following her car closely” as she drove from one campaign venue to another but, while she had called the police in, there was nothing so specific as, say, “tailgating”. She (interestingly) didn’t specify whether they were candidates, leaving it hanging in the mind’s eye that this frightening mob might well have been Zed, Brendan, Steve and Jeremy. Gallagher was very careful with her words – said she “often has children in the car”, implying some sort of risk or danger to her children, but did not say she actually had children with her. All in all it sounded like a very cleverly crafted campaign tactic, designed to fall short of anything she could be technically called on legally, but crafted to maximise benefit from the current “mysogyny” card.

Katie Gallagher did not outline anything about verbal aggression, and no specifics whatsoever.

So apparently some Liberal campaigners (best to assume they were not candidates), knowing she was heading off to campaign somewhere, and decided to follow her to counter her campaign at whatever venue. Entirely legitimate, provided they weren’t stepping outside the law.

Seeing Katie Gallagher using the media to play this nebulous victim card, against unnamed “offenders” and with no evidence, so soon after the apparent viral success of a federal politician playing the victim in the federal parliament, smacks of strategy cooked up at Labor campaign head office. It could also be an abuse of the justice system.

This labelling people who voice an opinion “trolls” without any actual argument (which is actually trolling) just shows how WRONG this Labor government is, along with its imitation of toxic Labor strategies at the Queensland state and federal levels. If you can’t argue with my posts, going all Albo/Roxon on the RiotAct only serves to underline that ACT Labor’s campaign strategy is just politics borrowed from the Hill.

I bolded the part I’m talking about, but seriously, you’re blaming the Labor government for people being labelled trolls on the internet. Get real, get a life. In fact, I think I can hear some big obstructive trees crying in fear of council labourers, if you hurry might be able to save them.

Very much appreciated.
I mentioned the trailer purely to assist in description of the White Falcon wagon towing it, hilarious that it continued as ‘Trailer?’ Trailer. Trailer. Trailer! Trailer! Trailer!

Thanks again for your response.

You know, when a person appears here and declares their love for Jeremy Hansen, bags out the Greens and Labor (to date), pounces on anyone who voices otherwise, intercepts questions directed at the Libs with insults and accusations of ‘cooking up issues’, authors and submits anti-other party pieces and then claims no vested interests, you either think the majority of us are morons, or you’re lacking in intelligence yourself. Which is it?

How can one “intercept” a question on a forum like this? Oh – you’re referring to your very own bit of cuisine regarding Zed’s trailer rego, and not liking a forensic line of insight into a nonsense. That isn’t “intercepting” – that’s “answering” …

Incredible- you still can’t see it. Read again what I submitted about his ‘trailer’, or was that what you turned it into? I think you’ve just answered my question.
I hope you bless the APS’s EEO policy everyday.

Stop feeding the troll, Girt. It is loving it.

That’s damn good advice. I’ve fallen into the trap of arguing with an idiot.
Cheers, I shall certainly refrain from now on.

Sounds like something out of the Gillard playbook, but who knows.

It’s fair to say there are creeps on sides of politics, the wife of a Liberal candidate was driving a car with his face all over it. In a public car park she was rammed by another car. This is a true story and is under investigation by police. The same driver has kicked cars and yelled obscenities at liberal candidates. This stuff happens its not because lib supporters are creeps or all alp supporters are creeps. Just some people are creeps. I hope no one gets hurt or intimidated, it’s only politics people

What ? In what way is K G a big strong powerful woman?

Compared to Mr G. It’s all relative you see.

I think it would be rather apt if no one accepts responsibility for this so called “harrassment” – considering that Katy has never been one to accept responsibility for any of the eff-ups she’s made in all the portfolios she’s held over the years.

…that’s because the way the Canberra Liberals is constituted the Young Liberals are also members of the senior party. In other Divisions (States) one is either in the YL’s or the senior party. In the ACT, the YL’s just motivate their numbers to vote as a bloc. Within reason, what the YL’s want the YL’s get.

Young Liberals, who are actually Conservatives rather than liberals, have a long history of acting like complete twits. I’m sure Young Labor have their fair share of dickheads too. Comes with the folly of youth.

To call one a liberal is a term of derision with the YL’s. Here’s a tip…the clue is in the name of the party.

Someone buy the Labor party a dictionary so they can look up the word “misogyny”. They clearly have no idea what it means.

Don’t get me wrong – Gillard tearing Abbott a new arsehole the other day is one of the best things to happen in politics for as far back as I can remember. He deserved every moment of that. The way he and his cronies treat some women is utterly despicable.
(Incidentally, what was the Peta joke that upset the Libs so much at the Lab dinner the other night? Nobody seems to want to tell us…)

How long will the Libs persevere with lurching on under Abbott? *Surely* they’ll sort it out now?

I think this story just highlights how juvenile the Canberra Liberals are. Sure they can campaign at the same places as Labor, but they shouldn’t target individuals. Maybe they could actually spend time explaining their policies instead. I’m pretty p*ssed off with their “triple rates” campaign as it is, do they think Canberrans are idiots? Katie Gallagher has just gone an “I’m an exception” step further: quoted on ABC Radio saying that “as Chief Minister, I was within my rights to call the police” – not, note, exercising any rights as a plain citizen, but based on her perception of her special status. The message there is that she has special “police protection expectations”, and begs the question: if she was calling for a police response to her complaint made “as Chief Minister”, is she thereby requiring fellow Canberra citizens to treat her with particular reverence and respect, and not campaign against her?
This is “born to rule” stuff.

The cult of personality surrounding her is astounding. The Team Katy mentality. The tiny little Labor logos on corflutes. Might as well just call yourselves the Katy Gallagher Party and be done with it.

Sounds like a bit of a beat up.. If all they were doing was following her from one shopping centre meet to another (as it sounds from the story), then that’s no different from her plebs following her. If they were aggressively following her, tailgating etc, or following her home, then that shouldn’t be on.. I assume from the lack of interest from the police, thay they know a political tantrum when they see it.

In the thick of an election campaign? Note that Katie’s complaint did not specify any form of aggressive driving – just “following”. As you would.

Firstly it’s KATY.

Secondly, her comment said that 1) she was followed from one campaign stall to the next (which is probably nothing to complain about given that campaign turf is prized real-estate so late in an election) and 2) that she and her volunteers, possibly from feeling pressured by Zed’s truck following them on the road, drive into a car park to lose the ferals when one of the vehicles followed them and encircled them .. before driving off.

She makes clear that she’s used to politics being ‘rough’ on both sides, but draws a line at using the road to challenge someone.

please, stop trying .. you’re just embarrassing yourself.
