Did anyone else hear cannon fire?

At around 11.30pm Easter Saturday night I heard what sounded like fireworks, but I couldn’t work out what was so special about 11.34pm that required celebrating. Then as the night progresses into Sunday morning that noise was replaced by what sounded very much like cannon fire.

Did anyone else hear this, or know what is was?

I’m pretty sure aliens haven’t invaded so am ruling that theory out.

I heard some at a similar time Friday night/Saturday morning on the walk home from the Folk Festival. Came from the west towards Franklin/Crace. Only about 3. No echo to indicate it was actually from the opposite direction at firing range, which I haven’t heard in action for a few years now actually. It used to be a regular feature at 10 past 11 a lot of nights…

The boring and obvious answer is: if you’re anywhere in the inner north through to Gungahlin then the sound probably really was large guns, at the Majura firing range.

But let’s not stop at that, come on let’s see some good conspiracy theories 🙂

We’re arming churches now? Oh THAT seems like a good idea.

Although, if I was expecting the dead to rise, I’d want some weapons nearby too 😉
