It’s just quiet. No new articles, but plenty of comments on existing stories.

What’s with the ZERO updates on the site since yesterday morning? What’s going on?

About $54 too much – MY personal opinion. Ash Grunwald is very talented but the other two acts are rubbish.

Tix for Helmet and Sonic Youth (real international acts), who will both flying out from the US are costing me $54 and $57 respectively IIRC.

Anyways (and I realise this is now well off topic), but the point I was trying to make was, while these guys might play music for the love of it, they make diddley squat from CD Sales, and they gotta make a living somehow. Hence $74 for a show of last nights size seems reasonable to me.

I’d say $30 is about $20 to much for Cog and Dead Letter Circus…..

personal opinion 🙂

$74 is steep for two mediocre bands. I saw Cog and Dead Letter Circus for almost half that amount at UC

I have to admit, I was originally of the same opinion as justbands and el – $74 for an Aussie group – tell ’em they are dreaming. But then I cast my mind back to some mates of mine in a ska band a few years back – it’s pretty hard to get a booking when there is 6 people in the band – even if they pub is just gonna put some cash over the bar for ya – it becomes very expensive for the venue..
Then you need to consider that The Cat Empire brought with them a 12 piece band (including a strings section for the first time), there were 2 support acts, there were food and drinks vans at Commonwealth Park, and they are now very much an international act.
Given they are hard working and tour frequently – this could almost be their full time jobs and they have to make some money somehow.

Anyway, for all those that missed out – it was quiet possibly the best concert I’ve ever seen, and easily one of the best from an Aussie group.
In hindsight, I reckon it would almost have been worth an extra $10-$20.

Apparently puppetry of the penis was on last night.

😛

What was happening at Commonwealth Park last night? The traffic lights were in operation, car park was full and plenty of people were crossing Commonwealth Ave.

Caf – I’ll be seeing two international acts in the next few months. Tickets for both shows will be $20 less than the sodding Cat Empire.

I’ll be going to hear the Australian Chamber Orchestra play Mozart, with pianist Melvyn Tan. Should be brilliant. Plus, there’s the whole suspense things of seeing if they’ve FINALLY put carpet in the Canberra Theatre (but I’m not getting my hopes up).

The custom knife show in the ads is on.
Embassy motel. Sat 2 feb.

I heard the guy on radio yesterday – he actually made it sound interesting – they have 5000.00 knives.

It’s three freaking interstate acts you tightarses.

$74 for the Cat Empire!! Pffft.

Canberra’s own Identical Strangers are playing at Olims on Saturday from 6.30 to 9.30 and addmission is FREE!!

Buy yourself dinner, install a hangover & you’ll still have change in your pocket.

I think I paid $20 for the cat empire a few years ago.

$74 for The Cat Empire????? I’d be amazed if there’s not still THOUSANDS of tickets left.

you can buy tickets at the door for TCE, I’d imagine there’d still be plenty

Anyone heading to the Raw Comedy heats at the Street Theatre tonight? 8pm, tickets $19 (or the equivalent in rubber chickens…?)

I only discovered that TCE were playing in town last week, but they don’t seem to be doing cash ticketing anymore. 😐

Movies at Commonwealth Pl every friday @ 8pm in February (they are showing The Devil Wears Prada tonight)

The Cat Empire, supported by The Beautiful Girls and Ash Grunwald – tonight at Stage 88, tix $74 from mothershipmusic.
