Territory and Municipal Services have broken their silence ^[1] over the flaky Golden Gate pedestrian bridge over Drakeford Drive:

“Issues with the paint were not evident until the bridge was erected. However inspection work after completion revealed that the painting was not correctly undertaken and, as such, the contractor is required to repaint the bridge,” said Director, Roads ACT, Tony Gill.

“The work will be undertaken at no cost to the ACT Government.

“The defective sections of paint are currently being removed, and a repaint job will be carried out.

“An extended warranty period will be in place for the next two years (rather than the normal 12 months) to provide an additional safeguard.”

The work is expected to be completed by the end of next month. There should only be minimal impacts to pedestrian and road traffic on Drakeford Drive during the works.
