I caught the first set of Dub Dub Goose at The Front last night and have to admit I was impressed.

In large part a vehicle for Beth Monzo (who you can hear in Insatiable Banalities #72) the band takes her funky numbers, usually performed with just a guitar, and turns it into a jazz infused big band production.

A seven piece band with a brass section of trombone, trumpet, and baritone sax they had the jam packed crowd jumping and jiving.

How often do we see a trombone solo in modern music? Not nearly enough.

At times the trumpet headed off into it’s own little world and it almost felt like we were in the opening scenes of David Lynch’s “Lost Highway”.

If you like your music funky, brassy, and jazzy, with a hint of reggae beats they’re definitely worth checking out. I’d also recommend booking them for parties where you want to get people up and dancing.
