Duffy fire

A fire in a back yard has damaged a fence and a stand alone garage on Kallara Close, Duffy.

ACT Fire & Rescue has extinguished the fence fire and gained entry to the stand alone garage to extinguish the fire inside the structure. Crews are using a thermal camera in the garage to eliminate any hot spots. No one was in the garage.

Fire has also damaged power lines with power lines on the ground. Power to the damaged lines has now been isolated.

Three fire pumpers, the Breathing Apparatus Van and two Commanders are on scene.

ACT Ambulance Service intensive care paramedics are also on scene supporting operations with no injuries reported.

Crews alerted following multiple Emergency Triple Zero (000) calls from 2.46pm.

Estimated damage to garage and contents $20,000 with approximately12 metres of brush fencing also damaged.

Cause of fire deemed to be from ashes from a slow combustion heater, which were placed onto a compost heap earlier this morning. During the course of the day, the ashes reignited, causing the damage to the fence and garage.

Fire crews will be departing the scene shortly.

Cause of fire deemed to be accidental.

ACT Fire & Rescue are about to depart the scene. Crews will closely monitor the premises during the night to ensure re-ignition does not occur.
