Dylan's Charity Auction

As some of you may be aware, my neighbour and my son’s best mate Dylan Cook has a brain tumor and is putting up a brave battle and his mother Melinda is doing a tremendous job on her own and dedicates her life to getting her son well again. It’s a rather costly affair and although the family raised over ten thousand dollars at the last family fun day, it has run out and the trips to Sydney etc are now coming out of her pension and her parents pockets.

They have registered as a charity now too and had some exposure with The Chronicle a few months back, the word is slowly getting out there. I didn’t have a lot of information when I posted the last charity day and I missed some good stuff, such as Harold Hird auctioning on the day some great sporting memoribilia and other things, it was fun and raised lots of money. Dylan was overwhelmed but had a great day, as did we all.

This day is shaping up to be even more fun, here are some of the details I have been given.
___
Dylan’s Charity Auction
Magpies Belconnen Golf Club
Stockdill Drive, Holt
Sunday 13th December – 12:30pm (2pm Auction starts)
Proudly sponsored by: Jelly Bean Amusements – 6297 7540

All proceeds go towards Dylan and his fight against an inoperable brain tumor.

Featuring:
Sausage Sizzle, Raffles, Harley Rides, Jumping Castles, Fairy Floss starting from 12:30pm.
Auction featuring some of the Canberra Raiders helping (no help as to which, sorry) and here’s to hoping Harold Hird will be lending his voice again, I heard they have some fully signed jerseys and quite a lot of items have been donated, it should be a good show. Auction starts at 2pm.

Last year the day was fetching some unreal prices and the odd bargain for a signed something or rather. It was after tax time last year though, the crowd had money to burn I guess. `

It has changed venue. Much thanks to the Hawker Bowling club for the last one.

After finally catching up with Melinda I’m happy to report the day raised around $10,000 for Dylan.

Which is great news, Melinda said it was up on the last day. Especially as there weren’t 100 bowlers paying $15 each. It did help that the auction goods this time were fully donated.

Thankyou to the Holt Golf Club for the day. Very welcoming.

The signed Kangaroo’s jumper went for $1500 and that was a steal IMHO.

I would like to extend a huge thankyou to Bill Quinn (Overheard Productions) for being a wonderful MC for the day and the bands were just perfect. I know Melinda is looking forward to working with him again.

Also a big thankyou to all those who helped out on the day and all the lovely people who came to support Melinda and Dylan. (knew it would be great to see you there Granny)

Everyone had a fun day, although next time there is one more focus will be put on the kids fun I’m hearing. Monday’s Canberra Times had Dylan and my son’s picture, pg 4 a really good action shot of Dylan, he never stopped all day was good to see him enjoy himself! Thanks to the Canberra Times too, they have been there from early on getting the word out.

And lastly but not leastly, thankyou to RiotACT for allowing me to plug a good cause.

Oh Granny, I just reread the comments back to Melinda and I realised you actually said you were looking forward to taking the kids. Ohh I misunderstood you and thought just your friends were supporting it. That’s great Granny, I look forward to seeing you there.
🙂

Big raps to FM104.7 who mentioned this on air this morning, and to my valued Girl Friday (Emma) for making it happen.

Thank you Overheard, I appreciate that and the help you’re offering as would Melinda. Go Granny’s friends too and everyone who has kindly offered help.

Yep come on Canberra, we definitely have a heart in there somewhere!

Yes of course Kellie would be fine with it, she is such a natural P.R lady for Melinda’s cause, I swear! Melinda is so lucky to have her help too.

Hey Hells Bells. Love your work.

Kelly’s details are on a flyer for the event which is being circulated so I’m sure that’s all kosher.

This is a great opportunity for businesses and media organisations to get behind an extremely good cause. Forget the tinsel and non-biodegradable christmas crackers: get donating!

Overheard Productions/Entertainment has donated MC, music and stage management services for Sunday, profits from another gig on Friday night and another item that will arrive on Sunday.

Come on, Canberra!

Oh and one thing to add, Harold Hird unfortunately won’t be the auctioneer on the day, but I hear it’s another popular auctioneer. I’m sure he shall be greatly appreciated anyhow.

Thank you Overheard. I wasn’t sure if Kellie wanted her details up so I erred on the cautious side. 🙂

Granny – Absolutely, what Melinda is going through is really rough. But gee she holds it together beautifully for Dylan and her other older kids.

Melinda has done a lot for me and especially my son too, I wouldn’t have been able to work the last time without her help and I couldn’t think of anyone more devoted and deserving. Not to mention we couldn’t lose Dylan, it’s just not an option!

I can’t wait, I was talking to her this morning and it’s all systems go and lots of excitement (and pamphlets to still put in post boxes), takes away a little of the worry of it all too. 🙂

Oops, Kelly’s details aren’t on this post. There’s a flyer doing the rounds with those details. Call Kelly Cooper on 0418 969 677 if you can provide extra auction items.

Some extra details:

Chris Harland Blues Band playing live at 12.30pm.
The Bond Traps family band playing live after the auction.

Will be a great day and will be even greater if Canberra businesses can contact Kelly and donate items for auction.

When I look at my five year old daughter running around, I can’t even begin to imagine what Melinda is going through. Life just isn’t fair. A few of my friends are supporting this as well. It sounds like a fun family day out, and I look forward to taking my kids along. Please give my very best wishes to your friend and her little boy.

I have a great faith in the Canberra community that they will really get behind this family at this terrible time.
