Estate Jewellers in Canberra?

Having reached a milestone age I have decided to buy something pretty and sparkly as Mr Jess probably won’t.

I have a problem with all the big chain jewelry stores…..I would prefer to buy something that is older with a history and well….generally better quality and better made. Bit like me really.

Does Canberra have any Estate Jewellers? Yellow pages seems to indicate that they dont……

Appreciate any help.

Lazy I said :

Can’t pass up an opportunity to once again recommend Harry Rose if you end up looking into custom made jewellery. (http://www.harryrose.com.au/)

I’ve also used Harry for an engagement ring, he’s great.

The Canberra Antique Center in Fyshwick has a selection of estate jewellery.

But after learning that my friend’s diamond ring that was purchased for $3000, is only worth 10% of that price…I’m never going to put a lot of money in jewellery again.

Hansen’s Estate Jewellers don’t have a shop anymore in the Canberra Centre, but they’re still trading. Sorry, don’t have any contact details for them.
You could also try ACT Gold (or whatever they’re called), upstairs at 29 Lonsdale Street (opposite Debacle, above Thrifty Car Hire). He’s not always in, so best to phone him to find out if he does what you’re looking for.
Or try the antique shops.

There used to be an estate jeweller – Hansen’s – in the Canberra Centre but he shut up shop a couple of years ago. However, there are lots of good jewellers outside of the chain stores. I’d personally recommend Bijoux – lots of interesting jewellery in a range of prices and they will actually make stuff to order. Briolette in Manuka sometimes has estate stuff but they are at the top end of the price bracket.

Hansens if they’re still around. There was aslo one in Dickson Shops neart the CPS Credit Union, dunno if they’re still there.

May I suggest you contact McGlades in the Canberra Centre before you settle on old stuff. Run by a gemmologist with exqusite taste and a refusal to deal in second best or chain jewellery. Worth a look IMHO.

Depends on your style but Millefiori Designs does vintage pieces at good prices. She focusses mainly on beads and one off pieces but will also make to order (provided you have good taste)!

Here’s her etsy page: http://www.etsy.com/shop/51moozle?section_id=6727379 but looks like she’s in Bali at the moment.

Otherwise you can go here to get an idea of her style and a bit more info http://www.artsconnect.com.au/maureenwarner/index.htm or here.
