Explore the unique Taiwanese culture and showcases at the 2012 National Multicultural Festival

The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Australia and the Taiwanese Association of Canberra, Australia (TACA) have jointly organised four events to take part in the ACT National Multicultural Festival 2012, including the Taiwan Sublime Photo Exhibition, SEE Taiwan, Taiwanese Food Stall and Live Band Performance.

1) Taiwan Sublime Photo Exhibition

The exhibition showcases the works of four of Taiwan’s most brilliant photographers. Their collected work highlights both the natural beauty of Taiwan and the cultural splendour which has evolved through its many religious, spiritual and artistic traditions. Chen Chih-hsiung’s photos illustrates the variegated natural stages on which the human drama proceeds. Chi Po-lin is known for his aerial photography and various images of Taiwan’s changing landscape. Liu Chen-hsiang gives a taste of the diversity and vitality of Taiwan’s modern dance and traditional drama. Huang Ting-sheng’s snapshots of religious festivals a visual treat. Each series in the exhibition focuses on a particular theme and style. The four series dovetail to present a stunning overview of a fascinating country.

2) SEE Taiwan: Study, Explore and Experience in Taiwan

TECO is also taking part in the phenomenal cross-cultural information stalls on Saturday, 11 February 2012 and will invite a Taiwanese Group from Australian National University to perform singing spectacular at stall to demonstrate how Mandarin can be learnt through singing. The performing group will re-compose some latest Taiwanese Pop songs to bring out the vivid musical rhythm for the community to immerse and enjoy learning Mandarin.

Useful information and brochures of scholarships, tour and culture in Taiwan will be available at the TECO Stall.

3) Taiwanese Food and Eco Products Stall

For the Taiwanese, food is an art and a cultural expression. The Taiwanese Association of Canberra, Australia (TACA) will prepare a variety of delicious Taiwanese gourmet delicacies at its stall for everyone to taste and experience. A range of eco products will also be available at the stall.

4) TACA Live Band Performance

As part of the Multicultural Festival dance spectacular, TACA band will be performing Taiwanese pop songs at the 2012 multicultural festival. This is the first time that a Taiwanese band has been invited to perform at the National Multicultural Festival. For decades, Taiwan has played a leading role in the Chinese-speaking pop music scene. The participation will open the window for the ACT community to enjoy unique pop music from Taiwan.
