ACT Policing has released a facefit image of a man responsible for an act of indecency in McKellar on Tuesday (January 8).
Around 8.50pm, a woman was cycling along the bike path adjacent to William Slim Drive when her bike was hit from behind by a male cyclist. She fell to the ground and was dragged into nearby grassland by a man.
A male cyclist riding along the path heard the struggle and stopped to provide assistance to the woman. She was taken to Calvary Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the incident.
The man was last seen riding towards Belconnen on a dark-coloured BMX style bike.
He is described as having a dark complexion, approximately 183 (6’) tall with a solid build, dark-coloured hair and aged between 20 – 30 years old. He was wearing a blue coloured T-shirt and knee-length black shorts.
Police are urging anyone who recognises the man depicted in the facefit image, or anyone who saw a man matching the description above riding around the Lake Ginninderra area on a dark-coloured BMX style bike on Tuesday night to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the website www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.

Why are there no CCTV cameras in strategic places around these bike and walking paths. Even if the cameras don’t see the actual incidents, or stop the crimes from taking place, it makes it easier to find the offenders. These computer generated faces created from descriptions are highly inaccurate.

I think we’re using the metre these days (since 1972) in preference to the yard. The standard metre is defined as the length of the path travelled by light in vacuum during a time interval of 1/299792458 second. (And I guess the vacuum in question is assumed to be an inertial reference frame).
I think Liberace would constitute a poor standard for length, on several grounds:
1. As stated, he’s not as precise, convenient or legally accepted at the current metric definition;
2. To access him for calibration purposes would necessitate disinterring him periodically from Forest Lawn cemetery in Hollywood;
3. His integrity is suspected by some to have been altered during the autopsy to conceal the ultimate cause of his demise, rendering his length unreliable;
4. His current containment environment is not likely to be sufficiently stable to maintain his physical integrity, so his length may have changed in the years since early 1987.
I won’t comment on the rest of this thread, other than to urge those posting to ensure that rigorous and legally traceable measurement standards are employed wherever available.

I agree. Steps should have been taken after death to measure his length with the gratest of accuracy available at the time.
Further, a mausoleum Lenin style would have enabled periodic recalibration of the standard. A modest fee at the door would have paid for the upkeep for years to come.
One thing would have been certain. People from near and far would have gone to see him and said “He looks gay”…
