Festive workman builds Christmas Tree

Christmas!

Well, I assume workmen. But there’s only one in the picture.

TAMS have started on the Civic Christmas tree!

“The spectacular 21 metre high Christmas tree is a great Canberra tradition and will again be the centrepiece of Civic Square in the lead up to Christmas,” said Darran Quade, Acting Senior Manager of Property Projects and Services, ACT Property Group.

“The Christmas tree is made up of a total of 890 pieces, with three stem pieces, 175 branches, 500 decorations, eight strands of lights, eight transformers, 195 bolts and a star.

“The branches have been put in place and decorated with colourful baubles, and tomorrow the team will put the lights up.

“The tree’s installation is quite a big job, but ACT Property Group has been responsible for erecting it for the last 15 years so we know the best process and no longer need to keep referring back to the instruction manual.

“It is like a big puzzle and, although at times it can be a little frustrating getting each branch to sit right, it is a rewarding job for the crew because they know how much the Canberra community enjoys seeing the finished product.”

The Christmas tree will be lit up at the Lighting of the Christmas Tree event to be held on Friday 6 December 2013.

To maintain public safety throughout the event, London Circuit will be closed between Akuna Street and Petrie Plaza from 5.30 pm until 10 pm.

Between the tree and the lights, I’m starting to get excited.

Christmas you guys, Christmas!
