Chief Minister Gallagher has announced her response to the controversial Burnet report into drugs at the prison.

“There are no recommendations which the government has rejected in its final response. The Government has responded to each recommendation from the report along with anticipated timelines for completion of supported recommendations.

“The Government has agreed to 20 of the recommendations; agreed in principle to 26 of the recommendations; agreed in part to 1 recommendation and noted 22 recommendations,” the Chief Minister said today.

The Report makes a number of important clinical findings and recommendations that are addressed within the Government Response. They include:

— improved access to primary health services and therapeutic programs;
— recommendations relating to detoxification and pharmacotherapy regimes;
— blood borne virus testing and prevention; and
— harm reduction initiatives.

We’ve requested a copy of the response and will add it when it we get it.
