Firefighters investigating gas leak at TCH

Firefighters are currently investigating a gas leak at the ANU School of Medicine, The Canberra Hospital, Hospital Road, Garran.

ACT Fire & Rescue has evacuated Building Four and Five as a precaution whilst crews investigate the leak.

The leak has been isolated and firefighters are conducting air monitoring operations to ensure the area is safe for staff to return.

UPDATE – Firefighters have given the all-clear and students and residents are now allowed to return to the area. Gas line was ruptured by workmen in the area. ACT Fire & Rescue due to depart the scene shortly.

UPDATE – Approximately 300 people have been evacuated from building four and five. Three fire pumpers, the Hazardous Materials Unit, Breathing Apparatus Van and two Commanders are on scene.
