But he has announced footpath upgrades for 93 Canberra suburbs. (That’s all of them right?)
The ACT Government is repairing cracked and broken footpaths in 93 suburbs as part of a $4.1 million maintenance drive, Chief Minister and Minister for Territory and Municipal Services, Jon Stanhope, said today
The work is part of the ACT Government’s $20 million investment in better cycle paths, footpaths and path signs over this term – the single largest investment since self government
Mr Stanhope said the program would be completed in mid 2011 and included the construction of almost six kilometres of new footpaths in 30 suburbs.

Maybe I should try ti visit them all.
They should make one going through the field behind Burgman school in Gunghalin. Would make it a lot quicker to walk to the marketplace from palmerston :p
Does that mean that they will now complete the half jobs they started last year.
Could start with the damaged path on the overhead pass on Streeton Dr… or at least move the witches hats from the middle of the road back towards the footpath.

I proposed links to Palmerston and Franklin through the grasslands (together with interp signage to explain the grassland ecosystem values) as part of the recent pedestrian network study.
I believe this has been taken on board and hope it will form part of the overall people movement funding mix in due course.
Alright I’ll bite cos this is pretty much what I do.
$4.1 million across 93 suburbs is $44,086 per suburb which will buy you the bobcat operator the cement and the labourers for a rough estimated cost of $2,000 per day per section of cement.
So what they are really saying is they are going to fix 22 pieces of cement in each suburb.
Maybe they’ll have to fix more than one section however in a row so lets say 2 sections at a time need replacing. So 11 cracks will be fixed in your suburb.
I’m not saying they shouldn’t do it but does regular repairs and maintenance really need a media release??
“We are fixing sh*t we fix sh*t all the time, it costs money.” Bravo sir well done here here give that to the media unit and see what they come up with.
The footpath in front of my house was ‘repaired’ a couple of years ago. In carrying out the repairs, the contractors drove their equipment all over the path that had previously been in good condition, leaving it in a worse state than the broken pavement they had come to repair.
Another facepalm moment brought to you by Government contractors.
Sweet… $4.1million of repairs to those strange white bits of concrete that are only there for people to park their cars on… seems a waste.
Can I have some public artwork instead?
Sounds sensible to me – just what local government should be doing. It’s been tough out there on my zimmer frame the last few years.
