Canberra’s own Senator Gary Humphries has proudly announced that he’s saved the nation from a typo induced $44 trillion debt.

An error in budget papers for the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations has overstated the Department’s total operating budget by 1000%.

Budget papers identify the Department’s budget appropriation as $44,578,501,000,000 – that is, over 44 trillion dollars – when the actual figure is in fact only $44 billion.

Senator Gary Humphries, who identified the error in questions in today’s estimates hearings, said he was relieved the long-suffering taxpayer was to be spared this additional contribution to the Government’s spiralling debt record.

“I feel very honoured to have saved the taxpayer such a vast amount of money,” Senator Humphries said.

Oops, the overstatement is understated.
1000 times overstated is 100,000%
10 times overstated is 1000%

I think both our senators seem a cut above the other local pollies.

As usual, Senator Humphries is out there for the common man.

Onya Gaz. You’ve got my vote.
