The ANU’s New Mandala is asking hard questions about what the Thai General, Pisarn Wattanawongkiri, is doing in Canberra.

He’s of especial interest having been found jointly responsible for a massacre at the Tak Bai police station in which at least 77 people died.

So do any of you know if this visit involves more than presiding over Buddhist ceremonies?

*guffaw*

!!

Pisarn Wattanawongkiri came here to make a name for himself!

At least!

: )

Stanhope’s Human rights Act was a plot for world domination!

Yes, you’re right! They are only seeking reparations from the ACT. They probably have a better chance in our court system ….

*chuckle*

Perhaps he’s come to declare war against us like in ‘The Mouse That Roared’.

I love that film! Now is he trying to get Australia to declare war? Stanhope might declare it instead – it’d be the entry into federal-level politics he’s been longing for 🙂

Perhaps he’s come to declare war against us like in ‘The Mouse That Roared’.

Does he have a bus?

Who knows – he might have family here…?

I guess if it’s unannounced, it’s likely to be private/personal. The stalking of tourists is hardly going to improve what others think of Canberra as a tourist destination.

“Don’t mention the war ….”

*chuckle*

Well, it would be impolitic for our Government to bring up any crimes he may or may not have committed, especially as he has never had the extent of his involvement been investigated by his own Government, just named as a probable by the independent inquiry.

As to why he’s here, who knows, maybe he’s here to tell the story?
He’s unlikely to be charged, it could be a quick way to further profit from it, he could claim this as a business trip…

Maybe he kept a few souvernirs or enough heads to make his own map, and is trying to solicit enough international interest in turning the site into a tourist attraction, like the Cambodians and their favourite “Hill of Poison Bushes”, Tuol Sleng.
(Possibly not safe for work, unless you work for Amnesty: http://www.tuolsleng.com/)

I think he heard about the RiotACT Bicycle Bar Crawl, but got the date wrong.

Or, he could be new skilled migrant arriving in town to take up a job as a Magistrate?

Maybe he wants to see for himself why Canberra isn’t a top tourist destination?

Well we knew why W was here.

If George Bush was allowed here then why not Pisarn Wattanawongkiri? I am sure George Bush has more blood on his hands.
