Good on ya Aunty

By 15 January, 2013 14

Ah to be able to listen to 666 in the mornings again!

After the sad and Solly ravings of 2012 sanity returns to the airways.

Endless blah blah blah is no more.  I actually heard a song in its entirety without interruption or inane comment and then a guest speaker who was allowed to speak.

The morning program sounds like it has some structure and preparation rather than a school kid doing his morning talk without doing his homework.

Dear Louise is not quite up to the mark yet but her efforts so far auger well for the future.

Good on ya aunty, – now how about substituting some real content in the overnight shows for the ad lib prattle and tedious talkback.

So has Solly gone forever (please let it be so), or is this just a summer scheduling issue?

Solly’s gone??? Thank goodness. 666 has been off the alarm clock for the past 7 or 8 years because of that prawn. I’ll switch back from RN immediately since its morning is currently clogged up by an even worse menace to the airwaves, the insufferable John Clarke.

Nothing wrong with Solly. Having said that, after seeing him on TV on 7:30 Fridays, perhaps he does have a good head for radio….

Oh could Canberra be so lucky in its centenary year as to finally have its airwaves free of that ignorant, inarticulate farmboy? I sure hope so. Canberra and Canberrans are so much better than that.

Don’t get my hopes up like that, Vindalu. Unless things have changed since this November CT article I’m afraid we’re stuck with him for now.

Oh no. I quite like Ross.

Good bloke as well as a decent announcer.

I like Ross. I find Louise Maher a bit ‘Mumsy’ or something . . . (can’t quite put my finger on it)

Yeah, I think that must a pre-requisite for 666. Maher, Sloan and Jacobs all kind of morph into the one persona for mine. Okay most of the time, quite good even, but every now and then you get a huge whack of schmaltz and cheesiness that borders on embarrassment.

Easy to be a critic from the comfort of my office chair, I acknowledge.

The worst part of all this being I’m officially over the hill, unable to cope listening to any of the knob-ends on JJJ during the day except Zan Rowe and Hack.

Hear, hear. I like Ross a lot – I reckon he’s the most ‘balanced’ when interviewing the local pollies. Louise Maher can barely contain her hatred for the Libs and her adoration of Dear Leader.

From what I heard from others during the recent ACT election he’s apparently pretty bad in that department and lets his own personal opinions shape who he does or doesn’t interview. Well, either its him or his programming manager. For an organisation that is supposed to be apolitical, you would expect something a little more objective.

I’ve never really understood that… we pay for ABC with our tax dollars so when have ratings got anything to do with it? I can understand why they’re important for a commercial station that relies on advertising revenue. But shouldn’t 666 ABC be basing its selection of content/presenters on being representative of the broad ACT community rather than on the popularity of the presenter and that presenter’s whims?

Agree with the ‘Mumsy’ descriptor, but she’s not half as bad as the loons they had on last year – fill in producers, which I got so over I posted here about too. Louise Maher is a nice person who has reasonable content. Last year from memory was content that seemed to be made up on the run. Salad, and stories that were always ‘coming up later…’ – that being their constant filler line.

I like Ross – and most people do judging by their ratings.

Ah yes – tis but temporary, it’s nothing personal, Mr Solly is probably a very pleasant person, I just expect more from the ABC. Yes the ladies can be a bit mumsy and parochial, maybe I listen to too much BBC and expect the same standard.

Oh dude, of course it’s still important. While they don’t need it to sell advertising, they still need it to justify the use of public money.
