The Greens have announced their candidates for the October election.
The four Green MLAs will be recontesting their seats, and have been pre-selected by the party to run as the four lead candidates for the election.
“It’s very exciting to see such a great Greens team for 2012,” Ms Hunter said.
“The people standing for the Greens include an economist, community activists, a student, a tradie and business people. It reflects the Greens diversity and broad appeal.
“I’m personally very pleased to have two experienced campaigners, James Higgins and Hannah Parris join me in Ginninderra.
“James ran with me in 2008 and Hannah ran with Lin Hatfield-Dodds on the Greens Senate ticket in 2010.
“In Molonglo, Gungahlin community campaigner Alan Kerlin, and Adriana Siddle, will be standing with my colleagues, Caroline Le Couteur and Shane Rattenbury.
“In Brindabella, Amanda Bresnan will be strongly supported by electrician and vocational education teacher Ben Murphy, and Johnathan Davis, a real estate agent and GLBTI campaigner.
Jonathan Davis being the cross dressing drag queen. That along shouldn’t point against him entering politics, more the combination of barely being out of UC (in fact I didn’t think he graduated yet), a real estate agent and a drag queen – just what is he offering society in the way of experience and expertise?
Well he’d certainly get more people watching the Assembly’s web stream.
Not Lin Hatfield-Dodds again…

Like lice, she’ll have you scratching your head wondering when she’ll go away.

She was named as being on the Senate Ticket in 2010 along with Hannah Parris, not as a candidate in the coming ACT election.

aha. sorry ’bout that…
Quite a good group in all (barring the drag queen, that’s a bit unfortunate). I think they’ve been doing fairly well so far, better than the crummy tin-pot Liberals, at any rate.

True, but it’s a sad situation when in describing political candidates, we fall back to saying at least they’re better then the other mob.
Kevin Rudd was known as The Sunrise PM due to his appearances on Channel Seven’s Sunrise program. Will Gungahlin Al be known as The RiotACT Member?
I only believe in voting for GLBTI candidates when they are hot.

It is a good strong team, as Meredith said today. I’ve been really impressed with them. And Johnno – well wait until you hear that guy talk – he is born to the politico role. Surprised the heck out of me at the Greens’ meet the candidates night.
I’m itching to get going. But a quick commitment to Gungahlin folk – I know for the next few months getting across that bloody crossing between Big W and Woollies is going to be worse than running the gauntlet outside a voting booth, what with all the candidates camping out there. I’ll do my best to find other ways of catching up with you.
With regard to GCC, I stood aside from all spokesperson responsibilities upon nomination, and handed over all executive involvement following the preselection announcement, in line with GCC’s constitution. It’s great that Ewan Brown came on board last year as president, and together with the rest of the gang – including a couple of newcomers – I’m happy that GCC will continue to be a community group to be reckoned with. But if you’ve got a passion for environment, planning and transport issues, I’m sure they’d appreciate your help.

Absolutely. Federal and ACT governments are running in parallel. The incumbents are awful, although slightly better without their former leaders, the Libs offer very little and the sooner we get rid of the Greens the better.
Any comments on recent allegations that the Greens are all in cahoots with the CIA?
(giggle)
Gungahlin Al said :
If elected, Al, what can you promise to do for the oppressed people of the inner north? We’re in your electorate too.
As to the cross-dressing candidate, I would never vote for him. He’s a real estate agent, you see, and therefore decency would forbid it, however nice the frocks may be.
Jim Jones said :
He could tell us, but then he’d have to kill us.
zippyzippy said :
Maybe he will be able to make some kind of protest/statement about the shortage of affordable student accomo… oh wait.
Nevermind.
Jim Jones said :
I can’t imagine why anyone would even think it worthy of comment, the CIA and the Greens are such natural allies and it’s obvious really.
If the cross-dressing chap is such a great politician, it’s a shame he is nobbling himself by highlighting his cross dressing.
poetix said :
Dear God, a real estate agent AND a politician. If his undergrad at UC happens to be in Law then he’s hit the trifecta.
EvanJames said :
Who’s highlighting his cross dressing exactly?
Question is: do any of the Greens Ginninderra candidates yet deem their electorate worthy of living in? Or do they prefer to continue to govern from afar?
At least ALP and Libs all live with the people they claim to represent.
zippyzippy said :
Not sure (well this thread for one) but I guess it’s more proactive than waiting for it to come out and be some kind of scandal.

I saw something a while ago before the official announcement was made with an emphasis on the more colourful aspects of the candidate. Oh forget it, I don’t know how to be PC about it and I don’t really care, if he has something worthwhile to offer then good on him. But if it’s just part of the Greens “diversity” and whatever other buzzwords they use then it just makes this middle aged middle class married lady who cares about the environment feel more, what’s the word, marginalised than ever. So far our Al is the only one that sounds like the real deal to me because I remember visiting his house on one of the Sustainable House Days years ago and I hear he’s been active in small local community stuff too. The incumbents? Somebody remind me please, what have they done? Ban plastic bags, oversimplified token issue, not winning votes with me. I really wish I could get enthusiastic about the Greens, I really do.
Greens announce their lineup for the election. Gungahlin Al will run away from them, if he has any sense.
A sorry bunch of candidates if I ever saw one. Aside from Alan K (no relation), the Greens obviously have no intention of getting anyone else elected. In fact I will boldly go where no one else will and predict that the Greens will be reduced to 3 members only after this election. No way Brindabella is going to vote ‘Invisible Amanda’ back in. And with Zed now down south, he will drag a lot of votes across from the Greens and the Reds.

Where does Zed, the member for molonglo, live?
Jim Jones said :
That’s absolute rubbish. I can’t believe the stupidity of anyone who’d believe such tinfoil hattery.
Everyone knows their in league with the reptoids.

The thought of using money to influence a political party for self-serving reasons must be absolutely repugnant to the mining industry.
