“This is a great facility for all Gungahlin resident to enjoy, and today’s open day is a perfect opportunity for people of all ages to learn about what services this new library will provide for them,” Mr Corbell said.

“The Government has invested approximately $12 million dollars into the new library as part of the Gungahlin College project which also included Gungahlin College Library Zone and CIT and Community Rooms.”

Entertainment at the open day will include a ‘Science Show-Off’ show, a variety of music and dance performances by local community groups, as well as interviews with local authors Jack Heath, Tania McCartney and Ingrid Jonach and Canberra Raiders players David Shillington and Shaun Fensom.

Local radio personality Mark Carmody from the ABC will also be there as the roving Master of Ceremonies.

“The new library is located next to the Town Park in the heart of Gungahlin and stocks 70,000 books, magazines and DVDs and feature free internet access, a media zone with DVDs and CDs, a café and outdoor courtyard,” Mr Corbell said.

Historical significance, it could be the last library opened anywhere.
