ACT Policing don’t want anyone to steal your license plates, so they’re going to secure them with tamper proof screws. My plates are secured with twigs I’ve jammed into the holes at the moment, so I might take advantage of this.
This Saturday (March 23) between 9am-1pm, motorists are encouraged to bring their vehicles to Gungahlin Marketplace. ACT Policing officers will be present to fit your plates with tamper-proof screws, making it more difficult for potential thieves.
Project Safe Plate is an initiative that forms part of the broader ACT Policing Property Crime Reduction Strategy. ACT Policing has set a target of reducing motor vehicle theft by 20% and burglaries by 10% by the end of 2015.
I use double-sided tape for the win (or not), haha!
I wonder if the police will be checking these plates before putting them on… Or whether they’ll help me attach some plates I punched from the poor bugger down the street…
Also gives them a chance to inspect the vehicle for defects… Nicely thought out, im all for it.

Surely they’d be silly not to take the opportunity to run every plate there through RAPID.
I got mine done last time around … the rozzers on the job seemed to view it pretty much as a day off – very relaxed, no sign of any interest in doing Policing work.

Zip ties here.

More discrimination against the cyclists.

I’ll be more than happy to attach a number plate to cyclists. Either at high speed while it’s on the car, or by using a ramset gun to attach it to their forehead.

Well what the hell else would we bring, just the plates themselves?
Yes, but what happens when you need to take off the plates yourself, like when you upgrade to personalised plates or send the car to scrap?
Will the police screw, or do you have to screw yourself?
FioBla said :
No fun in screwing yourself when the police are offering to do the screwing.

You can borrow one of two sets of driver bits I have. Nothing is tamper proof. Places like Jaycar sell the bits.

Probably even bunnings as well. Any tool shop too.

It’s really not that hard to grind an ordinary screwdriver to fit, either.
I would of thought the police would have more important things to do rather than screwing numberplates on cars. I think they would be better off to sub-contract that job out to some other agency.
