The ACT Rural Fire Service is undertaking a hazard reduction burn today, Saturday, 18 March 2017, in Tharwa.

The operation will begin at 11:30 am on the corner of Smiths Road and Naas Road near the Namadji National Park Visitor Centre.

The 34-hecatre burn is targeting African lovegrass. Up to ten units will be on-site during the burn.

Every effort is made to conduct the burn in weather conditions that will minimise smoke in the area. However, the Health Directorate advises, “people with asthma, other chronic respiratory and/or chronic cardiac diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke. People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.”
