Liberal Senator Gary Humphries is eulogising the remarkable Lorna Hazel Craig who passed away on Sunday:

Miss Craig was first appointed to the personal staff of Prime Minister J A Lyons in 1937 and then after his death she remained on the personal staff of his successors, R G Menzies, A W Fadden, J Curtin, J B Chifley and finally Menzies again, retiring in 1966.

Miss Craig was awarded the MBE in 1954, the OBE in 1959 and the CBE in 1964, the first private secretary in the Public Service to have been honoured by the Queen on three occasions.

“Hazel will be remembered for her devoted service to the nation and her trusted relationship with five serving Prime Ministers”, Senator Humphries said.
