Hey I dont know if this will get posted before the second gig which is tonight Friday 24/10 but if it does and you like Jazz/ Funk then I can HIGHLY recommend seeing Marc Mittag and the Headhunters at the Souther Cross club.

For those of you who dont know this band- they are a conglomerate of Aussie guitarist Marc Mittag and the Headhunters- a band that played with Herbie Hancock and made some legendary albums.

The musicianship at last nights gig was Master level and any drummer who cant get some inspiration from Mike Clark or Bill Summers should just stay in their bedroom.

They also did a clinic yesterday which was pretty cool although hardly anyone turned up??? I guess the promo coulda been better but I woulda guessed some of the Jazz Nazis would have even been able to lern something. Then again maybe they already know enough ;-()

For anyone who can handle listening to 3+ hours of mind blowing world class music then get to the gig. If this post gets put up after the gig then I guess some of you will not know what youve missed.

Also, just to clarify — this is being held at the CSCC Woden, in the Top of the Cross thingy.

I went last night. Fantastic music.

One annoyance was the older photographer, wearing a checkered shirt… he felt the need to photograph everything for the entire three hours. How many photographs of each band member did he truly need? And could he have withheld snapping away during the quieter moments of the show? He needs to learn a lot from ‘pling, who was also there… ‘pling took his photos, finished after two or three songs and then got on with the real reason to attend — appreciating the performance.

I also vaguely wish the guys had stopped mentioning Herbie — you’re all great musicians in your own right! play your own stuff, play it proud!

Minor point, but there are now seven Canberra Southern Cross Clubs.
So I’ll ask on behalf of the people who might be interested.

Where is it being held?
