Hooray for the Snows says Katy

By 4 August 2009 12

Perhaps in a sign of growing warmth between the Airport Overlord and the London Circuit Soviet, Katy Gallager is celebrating the philanthropy of the blessed Snows:

The Snow Foundation was established by brothers Terry and George Snow in 1990 with the aim of helping individuals and organisations that freely give their time to help disadvantaged people.

Ms Gallagher said the Foundation provided enormous assistance to Canberra’s human services sector, with its focus on social welfare, disabilities, health and education.

“We know this is a difficult period for many vulnerable Canberrans and this year the Snow Foundation will distribute nearly $535,000 in grants to 23 organisations and four individuals. This is the largest annual distribution to the community in its 18 year history,” Ms Gallagher said.

I was out at the airport last night to pick up some friends.

What a dogs breakfast. How on earth did any of that get approved. Did they get a kid to poke a fork in a bowl of spagetti and then drop it onto a table covered with small boxes for a plan?

I’ve been to third world airports that look better, function better, and have a better future.

So have I – but some of your stuff goes missing during the Customs search.

I find Canberra airport fine, so long as you never go near it.

Thumper. That’s exactly the point. No one cam blame ACTPLA or the ACT government because they can’t and didn’t approve it. Airport land.

Snow. Hence his attempt to balance the karmic scales.

well, i would prefer he was helping the disadvantaged instead of ignoring them. The dog’s breakfast at the airport is just one small problem, the disadvantaged and homeless is a far bigger issue, it doesn’t inconvenience everyone, but it is still more important to address first.

I’m curious, does anyone know how Mr Snow made his fortune? Was it inherited or built up via some business venture? Can’t find anything on the net on his background.

Out of interest, what were the problems you had?

The airport is on land leased from the Fedral Government so the Snows don’t need to deal with ACTPLA. Similarly, if they had their own corporate jet they could call the control tower at the airport they own and say “we are cleared to land”.
Jokes aside, they know what they are doing and they are doing it well. It will all turn out first class. I wish the ACT Government would outsource the running of the ACT to the Snows.
