This one’s from the fence around the huge hole in the ground where the Civic Greater Union cinema used to be.
This was old when God was a boy. But it’s nice to see the memory remains.

Personally, I’m not so sure that Bill Posters is innocent ….
Ive known Bill for a while now and have always thought of him as being a bit dodgy.
Jb, maybe i’m suffering an elderly moment, but what does the sentence “The was old when God was a boy.” actually mean?

As with so many threads on Riot-act, just be mindful of the defamation laws before commenting.
Good point, Ari! … *chuckle* … There may even be a Bill Posters!! I should Google him ….
*hehe*
There’s a road sign in Crawford St, Qbn, that always amuses me. It’s a roadwork sign with the stick-man digging, and someeon’s written below it “free dirt”. If I ever carry my camera there I’ll get a pic, for the regular Images of Queanbo feature.

As in, it’s a really quite lame thing to write, because people have been doing it forever. God was a boy a very, very long tome ago.
I love the Images of Queanbo feature!
I sense a word is missing.
Editorial typos (and glaring problems in articles, Jb knows what I’m like) just get my goat.

Just read “this” instead of “the”.
Huzzah, now fixed.

There’s quite a few of him on facebook!

Gosh! Lots of them might sue me!!
*chuckle*
Granny, it’s hardly your fault that you’ve been subconsciously turned against Mr Posters by The Man’s relentless propaganda campaign!
If Bill does send a cease and desist letter to the-Riotact, he’ll probably slap 20 copies side-by-side on Johnboy’s front door with lashings of wallpaper paste.
You’re right, caf! I bet there are subliminals in there as well ….
: )

I wonder where Canberra’s oldest surviving graffiti is?
I remember the laneway near Bladed Menswear in Civic had some political graffiti which was there for a long long time until it was eventually painted over not that long ago. Something along the lines of “Prout’s ____ is society’s panace”. Perhaps someone can fill in the blanks? I’m too young to remember who Prout was. Nor could I tell you the definition of “panace” for that matter.
I have also been fascinated by Prout since childhood.
“prout’s ideology is humanity’s panacea”
Prout is “Progressive utilization theory”.
This always disappointed me as I’d hoped it was talking about Marcel Proust
There was a Doors quote next to it and their destruction was an act of historic vandalism IMHO.

Nice work Johnboy. Out of interest, what was the doors quote?
Who remembers when “Constantine is 666″ was daubed on the wall around the Lodge?
I also always got a chuckle out of “Dyslexia Lures KO?”
The British Airways billboard advertising the (then) new Concorde service between UK and US which read “Breakfast in London, Lunch in New York” to which someone had added “Baggage in Bermuda”
Me thinks that the subtlety of graffitti has gone as tagging is not the same thing
The original quote was “Do you know we are being led to slaughters by placid admirals & that fat slow generals are getting obscene on young blood”
From dim memory the quote as rendered was something like:
“We are ruled by placid admirals and fat slow generals growing obscene on young blood”, but it was a long time ago.
Yes, that’s it! I can’t count the times I walked past and read that wall. I kind of miss it too.
: (
That blades menswear alleyway also had “Daddys cummin home” for ages as well… I remember it well from walking past as a kid and not quite understanding it.
The best graffiti I remember was in a bus shelter somewhere in Belco. Someone had written “Motley Crüe are the best thing since women”. Underneath it (in a different hand), there was: “Motley Crue ARE women”.
Funny…I’ve never seen that “Bill Posters” gag before – but it gave me a good chuckle. Very much my sense of humor (yes I do have one).

This used to always be on Mad Magazine when I was a youngster. I think I even have one of those pastie stickers with serrated edges (that you had to lick to stick them on things) on my old brown cardboard school case (Mad magazine used to regularly have stickers in them)
Can’t think of any good graffiti I’ve seen around the place in a long time.
I remember those graffiti too – Prout (I always thought it was Proust), and the generals growing obscene on young blood. I miss the bat signal on the “radar used by ACT Police” sign coming in from Cooma, that was witty.
