CityNews has word that their former political and arts editor Jorian Gardner has parted ways with 2CC.
CONTROVERSIAL shock jock Jorian Gardner has been sacked from local radio station 2CC.
Gardner and 2CC General Manager Michael Jones confirmed the news with “CityNews” today, but both declined to comment further.
Apparently suggesting prison guards might have something to do with the drugs getting into the prison is outrageously controversial.
While we’ve had our disagreements with Jorian over the years he is one of very few media voices in this town brave enough to speak truth to power. It will be a shame for Canberra if he’s silenced.

Have to disagree, Johnyboy. He was no better than the shock jocks to which you refer…in fact, he was worse because he spoke from total ignorance, at least some of the other “jocks” try to research their claims, even if only briefly. EG: People might not like it that we have crims in the ACT “gaol” and the screws have to look after them, but apparently it was okay for this dolt to slam all of the CO’s with suspicions that some were bent?
It will be a shame if he DOES find another way to be heard..one word from him is too much.

Well after being sacked from television (WIN), print (City News) and now radio I would say his media options in this town are probably exhausted.

I don’t think being outspoken really qualifies you as a shock jock. I don’t mind him. Some things I think he has been spot on about and something’s I think he is a total bell end about. Any one with smarts knows that the majority of drugs get in via guards. Why are the being protected this way?
I wonder whether his enthusiastic promoting of bottom-end burlesque shows contributed to 2CC’s feelings about him? I don’t mind the guy one bit, but he really hangs out with the lower end of town when it comes to “cabaret”.
Good riddance to an ignorant grub.
Don’t know the bloke personally, but whenever I have seen/heard/read him in the media I always thought of him as a bit of a dick.
As much as Jorian is the reason I don’t listen to 1206 anymore, he is right about drugs in the gateway to the dirty south gaol. Blind eyes and sore bum holes for the guards. It is a joke.
What happened to cause them to finally act against him? The management of 2CC seemed to be a boys club who found it amusing that Jorian was able to annoy so many people.
I agree with Junkett, Jorian didn’t have the intelligence to be a good “shock jock”, he generally resorted to personal insults because he couldn’t sustain arguments.
Good riddance.
I dunno, for all his (many) faults I think Jorian is a very passionate man, and that ultimately Canberra is better off with him than without him.
As for junkett’s little rant about the CO’s, if they are all doing their jobs properly and honestly then how the lump are the drugs getting in? Honestly mate, just because you or a friend or rellie of yours is a screw doesn’t mean you have to come out proclaiming the honesty of all the prison guards in the territory as if someone’s insulting you personally. Unless you’re one of the one’s funnelling smack in, of course.
“While we’ve had our disagreements with Jorian over the years he is one of very few media voices in this town brave enough to speak truth to power. It will be a shame for Canberra if he’s silenced.”
I agree. We don’t want all our media being a PC groupthink.

No, we don’t.
But we do want it to be factually correct, well-researched, professional, and to make a clear distinction between news and opinion.
Jorian, for all his ability to organise fantastic shows, also has the incredible ability to annoy pretty much everyone.
They didn’t even demote him to 2CA.
I don’t think he had a radio voice anyway, far too monotone.

For many people, being “factually correct, well-researched, professional, and to make a clear distinction between news and opinion” = PC groupthink.
Even from day one, it was only a matter of time! Jorian naturally upset people, not because he was honest, but by the way he did it. He was a distraction from the Mark Parton program and in my view did not add much value. Gotta say, not much forethought to his ‘on air’ comments. Wonder who will relieve Parton and Welsh over the holiday period??
