The Canberra Times reports that the alleged perpetrators of the Hughes shooting last year have been committed to stand trial:

Kai Yuen, 26, who is alleged to have pulled the trigger, and Todd Elphick, 24, were this morning formally committed to stand trial in the ACT Supreme Court over the death of Brendan Scott Welsh.

A third co-accused, 21-year-old Cameron Ashcroft, was committed in December and released on bail earlier this month after spending 10 months in custody.

Yuen is charged with murdering 28-year-old Mr Welsh behind the Hughes shops in May.

Elphick and Ashcroft are accused of aiding and abetting Yuen to intentionally inflict grievous bodily harm after murder charges were downgraded last year.

It is alleged the pair were acting on the assumption Yuen was going to shoot Mr Welsh in the foot.

Elphick is also charged with threatening a witness, and Ashcroft is accused of harming police at the ACT Watch House during his arrest.

All three have plead not guilty.

Canberra times reports it as being a double barreled shot gun. It would seem the preferred weapon of murder/whatever to sort out car/drug related bulls###. The only question remaining is the type of drugs involved. Anyone……..

Drugs were more the ruse to lure the victim.
There was a long running fued amongst these boys that was due to explode.
Sadly Kai exploded first.
I always found him to be a really nice kid.

nice kid ?? wtf he has alway been a try hard punk this not being the first time he has “explode” and pulled a shot gun it just the first time he has pulled the trigger! he has run in on women who have had there children in the house ! he has no morals or respect! he spent his time either off his head or playing with his weapons!

I have heard this, but never seen anything remotely like it!
Bit of a Jekyl n Hyde I’m guessing

It doesn’t sound very likely, but if Yuen really *did* intend to shoot Welsh in the foot, then he deserves a spell in the boob for appalling marksmanship, if nothing else.

And one of the other two tools threatened witnesses, while the third knuckled the cops who arrested him while actually inside a cop shop? What a charming trio. Off to the slammer for them as well, I hope.
Shotgun.
The reason they were caught is that they were pulled over for speeding, leaving the scene!

If the DPP stuffs this up I will be very cross.

And while I’m here, I seem to recall there was a great deal of speculation over the firearm that was used, with ideas ranging from a handgun to a shotgun. Does anybody know what the weapon was?

Glad to finally see some journalistic speculation about what might have happened. I wish they’d also speculate about why.
