Over heated lawn mower? wtf i smell a rat or is it just a case of utter stupidity?
It’s cheaper to get jims mowing.
How does a lawn mower overheat when nobody was home?
One has to wonder if it was a new type that are made on the cheap or an older one that needed cleaning.
I hope everyone cleans all the junk off their mower before they use it. Dried grass can be very bad

It was an older type of mower, as far as I know. The garage was full of boxes, furniture and fabrics and was not often touched, so it’s not a surprise that it went up.
My dad mowed the lawn and put the mower away, and ten minutes later the neighbours were pounding on the doors to let them know the garage was on fire.

OP says no one at home?

No, it doesn’t.
It says “There were no occupants inside the home at the time“, which I take to mean the neighbours did their job alerting the owners and they all got out safely.
