Chief Minister Gallagher’s victory speech in the Legislative Assembly has gone online.
In general it’s one of the better efforts I’ve seen out of the London Circuit Soviet.
The last paragraph on the other hand had bit of a clanger to my ear though:
I can confirm that it takes a village to raise a child or 3 and I thank all those villagers for their help, their unending love and their deep belief in me and what I could achieve.
unending … for now.
Villagers – WTF?
are we expected to all hail Queen Katy?
F#$% me dead, seems we’ve voted to go back to the 1700′s (with light rail …. em maybe)
How odd.
I hear the word “village” and instantly think of that joke that somewhere an idiot is missing from one.
Im not sure but it sounds to me that she is thanking whoever she palmed her children off to while doing the election grind.
poor kids.

Actually, I frequently see her at her son’s school doing drop off and sometimes pick up.
But I agree that she wasnt thanking ‘Canberrans’, she was thanking some specific people who know what she was talking about and got the ‘joke’.
The old saying goes “It takes a village to raise a child”. Gallagher has 3 kids, and is therefore thanking those people who helped to look after the kids during what would’ve been a busy period.
Those who want to get upset in public over an innocuous personal expression of thanks need to find something more important to do with their time like designing a support bra for their man-boobs.

I think perhaps you are the only one getting upset, Postalgeek.
