This morning counter-protesters gathered out the front of ACT Health for the third time to oppose the presence of anti-choice religious protesters. A group of people passionate about advocating for women’s rights and defending the right to accesses contraception and abortion are staging constant silent protests alongside praying anti-choice protesters.

The anti-choice protesters have been gathering every Friday morning for years, handing out anti-abortion propaganda, as well as spreading religious paraphernalia around the entrance to ACT Health. They have also been know to heckle passers by and make women who are accessing health services and ACT Health staff uncomfortable.

The counter protesters are standing silently behind the anti-choice protesters with signs saying things like ‘Keep Your Rosaries Off My Ovaries’ and ‘Pro Choice: the radical notion that women should have control of their own bodies’. With a growing numbers of attendees and support from passers by they plan to continue to convene until the anti-choice protesters stop.

There is an open invite for any community members who would like to support the pro-choice cause to come along next Friday morning at 8 am and join in. People are being asked to wear purple.

This is the most balanced and thoughtful article I have ever read concerning abortion.

Slogan reveals serious religious ignorance: they’ve just let all the protestants off.

That’s because the group protesting are catholic.

Anyway from where I stood it looked like the anti’s were doing what they always do, pray, while the pro’s where their teenage daughter’s hanging around waiting for them to finish.

Also think professorpitts is making more out of the anti’s protest as everytime I’ve walked passed they are sitting quietly praying. I’ve never been harassed or handed any religious properganda.

One’s personal right to choose to have an abortion should NEVER be questioned, and those found hanging around outside abortion clinics harassing or heckling anyone choosing to have an abortion, deserve to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

It is time to send the message to the religious, brain-washed anti-abortion bigots that they have no right to spew their sickening propaganda in the faces of innocent people in a free and civilised society.

Couldn’t agree more. Absolutely nothing angers me like someone suggesting this right should be taken away from me. Glad I’ve not come across these people. If they were to try and tell me abortion is murder, I’d like to show them what murder really looks like.

This is scary, but I actually agree with you completely.

Makes sense, I’ve often thought that you and Gillespie were the same person.

No, Mr Gillespie is Captain RAAF *sheesh*

Maybe this situation calls for a few of us to go an hold up big signs saying ‘land rights for gay whales’, just to rowdy things up a bit…

Pffft. The differences couldn’t be more stark.

I’m always right and completely hilarious.

Two 80 year olds and a wheelchair bound person…..well this may be true. They do also have some disturbing images and ‘models’. I found their protest offensive, I also had to explain to little inlymbo, in the best way I could to a 4 year old, what the images and models were and why they were there. I hear you yell, don’t take a small child to such a thing. We go there to access the dental program. While they may be quiet they are very visual and you can not avoid walking past them. I fear that now there will be an opposing group there also it will be even more ‘in your face’. Not fun for anyone going there for any reason.

I sure do envy the anti-abortion people their sense of certainty in the way things are. When every I try to think through a hypothetical situation on this subject I (almost always) reach a “It Depends™” conclusion. Until I have the certainty to force all the woman in the ACT down a path I don’t know if I would choose myself, I’ll continue to support their right to make that decision.

Fixed that for you.

Those protesters have been there for years. Generally two 80 year old women and a person in a wheelchair. Still, it’s good to see them finally getting a dose of their own medicine.

But why purple?

Two 80 year old women and someone in a wheelchair hey? Sounds like a fearsome proposition, but I reckon I can take them on, and sort them out.

Let’s feed all the children who are born before we angst over early fetuses. Note that a massive proportion of conceptions spontaneously abort. Until a fetus is 10 or so weeks old, I reckon induced abortion is a non issue. I’ve talked to abortion clinic nurses, and there seems to be consensus that after that 10- or 12-week stage it’s more unpleasant for the staff to perform an abortion. So as far as I’m concerned first-trimester abortion – no problem. But late stage abortion: I’m with the anti-abortionists.

I don’t object to either view, what I do object to is the loud mouth bitch who decided to force her views on me this morning while I walked past the building, next time I won’t worry about wasting my coffee and will drop both of you.

The anti-abortion prayer people have never said anything to staff or anyone walking past, they make people aware of their views with their silence and never forced their ideologies onto others especially staff or clients of health. This new lot should just shut up or bugger off, if you want to be anti-social, go to London.

People, we’re missing the real issue here. What’s really needed is a massive protest to stop idiots from giving their new babies bogan names. To this end, I’ve organised a large protest where trucks from all over Australia will come and blockade Canberra.

You have just greatly offended Shryl, Eeleese, Sky, Skie, Skeye, Shannon, Shano, Wazza, Sharleeeeeene, Mercedes, and Shapelle Corby.

Thankyou 😀

Don’t forget everyone, that you with abortion are making choices over the life and death of a living human being, not just an impersonal lump of cells.

Potential human being. Yes at that point it is just a lump of cells. It might form into a whole human, it might fail to. Much like the cells before conception, they are potential human beings too. Better get those protestors out wherever they sell condoms, as the use of those is making the same choices.

Good on you, ANTI-anti-choice protestors!!

Don’t forget everyone, that given the choice, that child would not want to be conceived through rape.

are all abortions because of rape?

who knew?

Good on you anti-choice protesters!

Although it’s wrong to name you anti-choice – while the mum may have a choice about whether to have a baby or not, the baby has no choice, so you should be called give-the-baby-a-choice protesters!

*facepalm* Please just go away.

I am having a real hard time trying to add anything more to this that doesn’t decend into an ALLCAPSRAGE or explitives so I just going to leave it at that.
