Kusina Breakfast - delicious and well-priced

Over the weekend my partner and I decided to take ourselves out for breakfast.

Of course, it was Sunday and we all know Sunday was.. Mothers Day! We decided it would be best to try somewhere out of the way because everyone and their mother would be out eating breakfast to celebrate.

We live in the Weston Creek area and knew that Kusina at Cooleman Court does breakfast so down we ventured.

A couple of groups were already there but overall it seemed it was yet undiscovered (obviously now you all know about it, make sure and save me a seat this Sunday!).

Filipino breakfast, like many similar cuisines, is not your traditional bacon, eggs and toast – however, for those who perhaps only love the atmosphere or have a partner whose love of Filo cuisine is not shared, they do ‘traditional’ breakfast with all the trimmings as well.

I chose the beef tapa, which like all but the omelette from the Filipino menu was served with a fried egg. It was sweet perfectly complimented by the garlic rice and the pickled papaya. I also ordered a banana smoothie and it was delicious.

My other half chose the adobo omelette which contains spiced chicken and was also served with garlic rice.

He also ordered the avocado smoothie which I didn’t particularly like but he said he loved, so if you’re into that, I highly recommend!

Both meals were brought out quickly and together, and when we were leaving we decided to also grab something sweet for later. I opted for a slightly weird-looking slice which has three layers, I would have said mango, coconut and maybe taro (it was purple). It was good but not sure I would order again due to the texture; it’s very, well, squishy.

We also got a box of coconut macaroons and they were HEAVEN. I got a takeaway coffee which was really good too and headed off.

All of this for $56 – a very reasonably priced adventure into local breakfast.
