letter box / bin shelters in Canberra?

Ok so I know these structures can look atrocious but I am sure I can make a decent looking one.

My only question is (knowing how rule-bound anything to do with building on the boundary is) can I build one on a residential block?

We have a large set-back and it wouldn’t encroach on anything.

At present our wheelie bins live on the driveway next to the house – but when we build our garage (DA approved) next to our house there won’t be much of a spot to keep the bins.

Plus our letter box needs tarting up so I thought I would combine the 2 – maybe with some timber panelling as well as masonry for the letterbox itself.

Wouldnt you prefer to have the bins close to the house to dispose of rubbish and then move them towards the road only on bin day?

Just one though, if you were to store your bins that close to the road, what would stop people using your bins as public bins?

My husband has helpfully sent me this:

I couldn’t seem to find it before. Mind you I think you could still do it somehow – if it went along the driveway.
