The Canberra International Film Festival have announced their new supremo will be Lex Lindsay.

The Canberra International Film Festival (CIFF) has announced the appointment of its new Artistic Director, Lex Lindsay.

Lex has established festivals and curated cinema programs across Australia: from Byron Bay to Hobart, Katoomba to Alice Springs, and from Dubbo to a Sydney Harbour Island. As the former Artistic Director of Queer Screen and Sydney’s Mardi Gras Film Festival, Lex developed both festivals by introducing a suite of regional and touring programs across seven regional centres. In addition, he introduced filmmaker development programs, masterclasses and for the first time in 2011, commissions of new short documentary works that saw him collect an Inside Film Award for Australia’s Best Film Festival.

In 2012, Lex headed up the programming for the new Cockatoo Island Film Festival and the annual Dungog Festival of Australian Films. Outside of the cinema, Lex is the Chair of Queen Street Studio, an Australian Business Arts Foundation award-winning artist-run initiative that transforms disused properties into thriving arts studios and provides free residency and rehearsal spaces to Sydney’s independent arts sector.
