Zed Seselja and Brendan Smyth are cracking a tin if not the bubbles over getting their long awaited cost of living statements mandated by the Legislative Assembly:

The Canberra Liberals today ensured Canberrans will receive cost of living statements with the ACT Government Budget, but ACT Labor and the Greens banded together to limit the information provided. The Canberra Liberals’ Financial Management (Cost of Living) Amendment Bill 2012 would have ensured Canberrans receive the full financial implications of the governments’ Budget decisions, but both parties excluded land taxes from the Bill.

“ACT Labor today proved that their commitment to “open and accountable? government is nothing more than spin, by refusing to tell Canberrans how much their massive land taxes will cost households,” ACT Opposition Leader Zed Seselja said today.

“It is utterly despicable that the same government which just recently introduced a $50,000+ per unit tax on top of its already massive land taxes doesn?t believe it?s appropriate for Canberrans to understand the implications of these decisions.

“While I am glad that Canberrans will now receive more information about cost of living implications because of our Bill, I am appalled that the government, with the support of the ACT Greens, refused to give details of taxes which directly affect households.

One wonders if we’ll get an analysis of what all these cost of living statements will cost to produce?
