Our good friends over at The Canberra Times have this piece spruiking the fact that the Federales are to expand by about “3000 addi-tional” staff in the next calender year.

This is quite a boon for those who are unfortnately cast adraft from our the ACT Government, of which there are about 400, according to the last State of the Service Report (Cue the Marching Band). This report also highlighted that there is a problem with the public service attracting appropriately qualified and experienced staff, not to mention the appropriately named ‘churn’ with folks looking for promotions or better oppourtunities with colleagues in their sister departments.

There is also a bit of whinge about ASIO failing to meet it’s targets, but with a generation of educated people who have the courage to make up their own minds on moral issues (i.e. dancing down the road to annexation with the Americans) this doesn’t really surprise me. Plus, most of Canberra has obviously been borrowing Bonfire’s Atari to play James Bond at home, rather than taking a job in ASIO to impress the hookers.

But I disgress, the one issue that is identified, ironically by this report is that there is Australia wide, a problem recruting and reataing decent staff. Well this is what happens when you allow big buisness the chance to turn the clock back on Industrial and Workplace realtions to the Pre-industrial Age. By doing this, employment becomes a bulls market.

Overall, good news for Serfs like us, even better news for the pimp temporary recruitment firms.
