A private landholder will this afternoon, Monday 10 September, 2012, conduct a small pile burn at Thoroughbred Park, Randwick Road, Lyneham.

Tonight, Monday 10 September, 2012, the ACT Rural Fire Service Gungahlin Brigade will conduct a separate hazard reduction burn, weather permitting, on the property of Wells Station, near the corner of Well Station Drive and Flemington Road, Mitchell.

The burn will commence at 6pm until approximately 11.30pm and will involve two heavy tankers, one medium tanker, one light unit, a command vehicle and 14 personnel.

An area of approx 3.7 hectares in size will be burned.

The ACT Handy Map grid reference for the burn is L10.

The purpose of the burn is to reduce a fire hazard.

Temporary smoke cover may occur. Every effort is made to conduct the burns in weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke in the area.

The Health Directorate advises that people with asthma, other chronic respiratory and/or chronic cardiac diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke.

People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.
