Massive Police presence last night, Civic.

I don’t know if anyone else noticed, but Civic was swarming with Police last night.

It looked like there was a big breath testing thing going on: heaps of traffic pursuit cars, and a lot of breath testing stations too. People were getting pulled over everywhere! Did anyone here get breath tested? Anyone get caught drink driving?

Anyways, looks like there was a pretty huge crack down on pissed idiots driving home: hope they caught a few.

Amazing that the police are actually testing while there is a chance they may book people – new ‘Christmas Only’ policy perhaps?

Sorry to be cynical, but I delivered pizza for a few years in the inner south – pissed drivers everywhere, crawling along with no lights on every Fri and Sat night. Rarely any cops, other then speed testing on Canberra Ave.

unusual in that they got caught…

Here is the link.

1100 tested, 41 people booked for drink driving.

Is this a normal Saturday night with so many drink driving?

And probably the fact that civic was packed from Foreshorers as well.
I got breath tested twice Saturday night. Once arriving and once departing.
But two of the policemen were quite spunky so I didn’t mind.

Hahah sounds likely… were you going through legistlative assembly carpark by any chance?

And AG: certainly the additional funding is helping a lot I reckon: something like an extra 120 cops on general duties in the last year. There was a massive recruiting drive.

Special G – the police have been stating that it is a result of their targetted operations. Those of us who don’t believe this type of spin realise that it is because they might actually have some dollars to pay enough coppers to get out there and breathalyze their hats off!

The more you look – the more you will find.

They would also have been looking out for people leaving christmas parties as well I would think.

There has been heaps of media lately about how drink driving rates keep going up in the ACT – this year is apparently well on track to break the record.

Is this a matter of more people drink driving or are more people just getting caught doing it?

I’d imagine the police presence was in response to the Foreshore crowd. There were 4 official after parties, and free buses from Foreshore into civic, so not surprising really.

I remember a few years ago it was quite common for them to sit on the exit of the moose heads carpark at this time of year and put everyone that left on the nose bag.
So many drunk mooseheads dickheads were caught. It was pretty funny to watch.

Got breathtested right outside the Civic police station upon leaving the Carpark. It’s the second time in 5-6 years of driving I’ve been breathtested and I passed with flying colours. Alright!

Wish they did it every weekend it would make it easier for me to find a park because drink-drivers would start shifting their cars further out of Civic.

ED: good point, Operation RAID has been ongoing for some time now. (Remove All Impaired Drivers). I just have never seen it on this scale.
