Matt Dent’s been playing his excellent blokey folk rock around town for a few years. But now he’s got a band!

They’re playing their first gig at Hippo on Thursday week and Matt sent in the following words to explain:

Hey guys I’d like to sprout a living thing of words to describe myself and my style but I’m really lazy.

Those of you who have heard me play have expressed your appreciation of what it is that I do.

What do I think: It’s taken me years to move away from copying my music heroes like Bob Dylan, The Doors, Jimmie Hendrix, Crowded House, JJ Cale to name a few. The last 5 years of writing, out of the 20 or so, has been my most fruitful and now I actually really like what I’m doing.

Anyway the listener should be the judge. My new EP (When I was a Child) is coming out within the next month or so (no date as yet) and I will be launching it at an as yet unknown location (somewhere in Canberra).

I now have a band: The Real Men. Our inaugural gig will be at the Hippo Bar on the 4th of June at 9:00 pm. Come along and check out this new sound there will be some very tasty tunes as the new band brings a different feel and zest to these great songs.

Hope to see you all there.

Worth checking out methinks.
