Katy Gallagher with her feet well under the Chiefly Desk has announced the ACT’s 2010 Creative Arts Fellows who each get $45,000 to take their minds off the daily grind.

“Michael Cove and Sotiris Dounoukos have demonstrated excellence in their fields and are deserving of the recognition and investment that being awarded an ACT Creative Arts Fellowship endows,” Ms Gallagher said.

“The fellowship will allow Michael Cove to complete three screenplays while Sotiris Dounoukos’ will produce a director’s ‘bible’ for film and hold a workshop for local actors.

“I am delighted that the 2010 Creative Arts Fellows represent two fields- screen writing and film making- that have not previously benefited from a fellowship.

And as for Sotiris Dounoukos, a man of prodigious but as yet largely unrecognised talent: without question, the ACT film industry looks forward with unrestrained anticipation to both the publication of his director’s ‘bible’ and the staging of his actors’ workshop.

I heartily applaud the award of this fellowship to Michael Cove in particular, who must be yearning to display his true talents – hitherto overshadowed by the daily grind of ad agency work.
