ACT Policing is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a 72-year-old woman, who was reported missing last night (Thursday, June 16).

The missing woman was last seen by family members around 7.30pm at her home in Hawker, before she left in her vehicle.

She is described as 5’7” tall (170cm), with a medium build, fair complexion and dark brown eyes.

She was last seen wearing a black ¾ length raincoat and a red or black coloured hat or scarf around her head.

Police believe she may be driving in her vehicle, a 2005 model green Citroen Xsara, with ACT registration YDS 85P.

Anyone who may have seen a woman matching the above description, or the green Citroen Xsara, is urged to contact ACT Policing Operations immediately on 131 444.

But, you know, if the only responses here were by people who legitimately had something to add, it would be a rather poorer site…

It would be a very light and rather empty site…

If it’s any help, I’m pretty sure that’s the Sydney Harbour Bridge in the background.

I can appreciate the humour (having almost posted the same comment myself)… It was a pretty comedy-neutral joke; neither bad taste/pisstake, nor “GOLD!!!”-worthy. But, you know, if the only responses here were by people who legitimately had something to add, it would be a rather poorer site… Surprised the OTT response wasn’t in all-caps too…

If this family is really concerned about the situation, then by all means seek to have her licence cancelled or an ankle tracker placed on her, or hopefully they can realise that she is an adult with human rights and get off their high horse.

Did you ever stop to think that there might be circumstances involved in her going missing that weren’t made public knowledge? Your statement is idiotic and insensitive as you have no idea of what actually happened.

Good point, here was me thinking that this woman was a responsible adult (obviously given that she has a car and a licence) who was capable of making her own decisions without her family needing to track her moves everyday.. maybe the family needs to buy her a GPS ankle tracker to make sure their mother/sister/aunty can no longer go for a drive without them being able to find her immediately.

Well, I thought the fact that she’s a 72 year-old woman who has gone missing with no warning, hasn’t been seen since Thursday night and wasn’t really dressed for the weather….

So which part of the equation doesnt make sense..That a 72 year old woman has gone for a drive? That she has gone for a drive without telling anyone (probably like she has been able to do for the past 50 years without being reported missing)? That she went driving in her car but wasnt dressed for outside weather. If youre going for a drive to a friends house, do you dress for the drive and to be comfortable at your friends house, or do you overdress to keep your overprotective family happy?

If this family is really concerned about the situation, then by all means seek to have her licence cancelled or an ankle tracker placed on her, or hopefully they can realise that she is an adult with human rights and get off their high horse.

Don’t worry she’s been found.

I’m sorry that I upset you. I forgot that we were supposed to wait until people are found murdered or drown in a river or die in a police car chase before it becomes OK to make fun at them at the expense of their family.

Only if they take drugs, are mentally ill or live in govt housing though! If they fit into all 3 of those categories they are fair game on RA, dead or alive.

Thanks for posting the follow up.

Don’t worry she’s been found.

Well, I thought the fact that she’s a 72 year-old woman who has gone missing with no warning, hasn’t been seen since Thursday night and wasn’t really dressed for the weather would’ve been a large enough indication that this was an ‘inappropriate’ situation to make jokes about.

But, y’know, maybe I’m just too sensitive. Whatever, bro.

I just didn’t think making a dry comment about a bad situation automatically means that you don’t care. That post reacting to the Sydney comments was slightly melodramatic in my opinion, but then maybe I’m oversensitive.

Of course I hope she’s alright, but not making perceived non-pc comments is hardly going to make her magically reappear nor is it going to make her situation worse.

Oh, don’t get me wrong, I hear it from that angle. But at the same time I just think comments like that probably would’ve been saved for other threads which weren’t so serious. I mean, I’m all for making a joke, but it’s probably not the best place for it in a thread like this one. Especially such a cheap joke.

But I’m not the RiotAct joke police so I’ll bail out now before I get stuck replying to this for all eternity.

Hope she’s found alright though. I’ve got a grandmother about her age, so it hits quite close to home when I read things like this.

Jeezes, lighten up man! They didn’t say anything inappropriate about this person or her situation.

Did anyone hear of an update?

Sounds like you feel guilty. Is that a confession?

I didn’t know you could go missing on such short notice

I imagine that if she was just ducking down the shops for milk or to collect takeaway, that going missing for more than an hour would be cause for some concern. Add in the age factor and therefore increased probability of perhaps medical conditions for which she didn’t take medication with her, and it’s good to know that the Police aren’t going to make you wait 24h to see if someone reappears before starting a search.

I hope she is ok.

It looks like she’s in Sydney

I didn’t know you could go missing on such short notice,
Hope it works out

How strange. I hope she’s okay.
