A 21-year-old NSW man had his vehicle impounded by ACT Policing after an incident in which he was detected racing against a motorcycle in Harrison.

A General Duties patrol team from Gungahlin Station was conducting traffic targeting on Flemington Road, Harrison late on Wednesday evening (May 29) when an orange Holden Commodore SS utility was detected racing against a motorcycle.

The vehicle was recorded at 122km/h in an 80km/h zone.

Police performed a traffic stop on the orange utility a short time later on the Federal Highway, and the driver admitted to the offence of street racing. His vehicle was seized and uplifted to ACT Policing’s Exhibit Management Centre at Mitchell.

The driver will be summonsed to appear before the ACT Magistrates Court on a date to be fixed, when he will face a series of traffic offences.

The rider of the motorcycle is yet to be identified but was known to be riding around the Harrison area a short time later. Police are urging anyone who may have seen this motorcycle rider or can assist in identifying him to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.

What a tosser,as if a Commodore SS ute, unless of course it’s highly modified, can even come close to out- accelerating a motorcycle.

I agree they’re both tossers, but in the interest of reality; the LS1 with Duspeed OTR, decent Cat-back and OZtrack MAFless tune (mail-order) can put 250kw on the road through an auto. There are plenty of motorcycles it can out-accelerate/match, let alone similar enhancements to the LS2/3. This is not ‘highly modified’ by any stretch.

Sure, but then compare that to a multitude of production bikes ranging from 750cc upwards to the quickest production bikes like BMW S1000RR or any number of Kawasaki’s,Honda’s Suzuki’s etc. The power to weight of a bike is streets ahead of anything on 4 wheels unless one is talking million dollar supercars. One only need look at the list below

Plenty of street cars can do 10 or 11 second 1/4 miles same as these bikes. A V8 Commodore with the emodifications that Pollushon mentions could probably do 12s, maybe high 11s with the right driver and gearing (on a dragstrip of course, Flemington Rd is not the place for it). Don’t need a Lambo or Ferrari.

There is a huge difference between a 10 second 1/4 and a 12 second one. The 1/4 times listed in publications aren’t achievable by 9 out of 10 racer wannabes because they don’t have the skill to launch a vehicle fast enough.

A V8 SS out of the box will only just get into high 13 seconds. You might shave up to a second off with simple mods, but you won’t get much more. And that’s with a good driver. On the street it will get blown away by any sports bike made in the last 10 years, without mods. Especially up to 120-140km/h (the speed range the driver was detected). My bike doesn’t even need to leave first gear to do that.

Maybe he was confused and thought he was driving a nice car; they can often outbrake and outcorner a bike.

Not a ute though. They are only good for wannabe cowboys who are afraid of horses.

Let me guess, you’re more into a 5 series BMW? Driven by a 70 year old who would buy you anything for a thigh rub?

Unless it was a Harley. I reckon I could out run a Harley on my bicycle.

Ah yes while the V-twin is an engine that’s been around for a century at least they have bucketloads of torque and if you want more than just noise then add nitro which will catapult a Top Fuel Harley down the quarter mile in 6.13 seconds @ 234 miles per hour 🙂
